"Tartuffe"
Produced by: Hole in the Wall Theater
Hole in the Wall Theater
116 Main St.
New Britain,CT
Box Office: 860-229-3049
Jean-Baptiste Moliere's classic comedy sharply satirizes
blind hypocrisy, religious piety, and deceit.
www.hitw.org/slot5.html. Tartuffe (Ed Lewis of Bolton),
a charismatic con man, wins the trust of a wealthy merchant
(Dennis Hull of New Britain) by masquerading as a religious
disciple. Over the course of the play, he schemes to
separate his benefactor's family from its money and its
women from their virtue. One of Molière's most stinging
satires, Tartuffe is a classic tale of hypocrisy, seduction,
and greed and is as timely today as it was in 1669.
The theme of the misuse of authority for personal gain
could come right out of today's headlines; just substitute
the names in the latest scandals.
What ultimately matters is that Tartuffe is two hours of
guaranteed laughs and controversial ideas. Show dates are
May 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, 26, and June 1, 2, 8, 9 at 8:00 p.m.
